Gun Reform

3rd hour American Government Mock Committee Bill

Saving America

Our country enshrined the people’s right to bear arms in the second amendment but lately, the very mention of this amendment brings up hate. On one side people feel like the government is try to infringe on their right to protect themselves and their family. One the other, people are scared of more mass shooting and want to stop the shed of innocent blood. The use of this blog is to describe the ways our bill is going to help solve this tense issue.

The Dove Act

This bill will Just be enacted in the state of Illinois. In it, we are trying to:

  • Lower the age to purchase a FOID card from 21 to 18.
    • The reasoning behind to doing this is because if you are able to vote and join the army, you should be able to have the ability to protect yourself without the consent of your parents/ guardians.
  • Shorten the renewal rate from 10 years to 5 years.
    • This is to keep a better check on those who are trying to buy guns.
  • Change the price of foid cards from $10 to $5.
    • If we are going to have the renewal rate cut, we should cut the price.
  • Require a Gun Safety Course for those applying for a foid card.
    • Currently, there is no required gun safety course of those purchasing a foid card. There is, however, a 16 hour required training course for those obtaining a conceal and carry permit. We believe that before you are able to purchase a foid card, you should know how to safely handle a fire arm.
